PokerStars online TV portal goes live

Almost a year in the making, from initial planning to final delivery, PokerStars.tv 2.0 was finally unleashed on a hungry public this week, raising the bar for online poker experiences the world over.

It was a particularly gratifying moment for me when the final deployment was made, having directed the user experience and design of the original beta site more than two years ago. As if having played a key role in the triumph of such a phenomenally successful project wasn't enough, being asked to come back and do it all again was an absolute rush.

Having learned a ton of lessons from the beta site, PokerStars 2.0 was to be a two-pronged attack. On one hand, we knew how the audience worked, and understood their motivations and proclivities. On the other hand, we also recognised the epic content management challenges PokerStars faced to run what is essentially a Live and On-demand TV station from many sites across the globe.

We developed a bespoke content management system on top of Videojuicer's comprehensive API, allowing video content to be uploaded, editorialised and scheduled from any location in the world, with a permissions based access control system to allow Quality Control to be managed centrally.

The consumer didn't go overlooked either; with substantial improvements in overall user experience, smoother interactivity, improved performance and caching. A slicker, more modern user interface design wraps an enhanced, more editorialised experience, making the site more enjoyable and relevant than ever before.

And it hasn't stopped there. We've a bunch of exciting new features in the pipeline that will make the online TV experience more engaging and socially interactive - the best is yet to be seen.
